Alright so here I am at day 10 of recovery. I found this website just before my surgery and read so many horrible stories that I was terrified going into my surgery. Needless to say I went in expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. The first few days weren’t too terrible. I took my pain medicine like clockwork and survived off KFC mashed potatoes. The worst hit at night, despite the humidifier it still hurt, but that’s to be expected. I had one incident on day 4 where I spit out a mouthful of blood, which was terrifying. However, it stopped. We couldn’t get ahold of the on call doctor so we didn’t do anything. The days immediately following my pain meds running out were the worst, I was sick of mashed potatoes and Tylenol didn’t seem to help. Now this wasn’t bring tears to my eyes pain, which I was thankful for, but I was simply hungry and tired. However those days without pain meds the nights were absolutely awful. The pain stopped at day 8, but I still have the uncomfortable feeling of having a restricted throat, and now enjoying eating soft foods anymore. All in all, less bad than expected, couldn’t expect it to be completely painless.
