Hemorrhage After Tonsillectomy
Tonsillectomy Recovery Experience

All at Once!

I am 23 years old and I had a septoplasty, turbinate reduction, tonsillectomy, and adenoidectomy on the 6th of December. I got it because I would get chronic sinus infections, trouble breathing daily, and sleep apena.

Recovering From Septoplasty, Turbinate Reduction, Tonsillectomy, and Adenoidectomy

I am currently on day 7 including day of surgery! Here is what I posted onto my blog:

Day 1: It blew. I slept most of the day but whenever I woke up my throat hurt like HELL. I was very medicated though so that was good. I drank lots of water, munched on ice cubes and gatorade.

Day 2: It is currently day 2 and I am doing okay today. My nose is bleeding whenever I get up to walk, and I had to drain my sinuses out with nasal rinse. My throat isn’t in too much pain. I try to drink and swallow regularly to get used to the pain. I haven’t slept yet. Honestly I am nervous to sleep because I am afraid of waking up in pain. But for the most part, I got to eat and drink today so that’s good. I am hoping the rest of the days go easy because so far it isn’t too bad. I heard days 3-5 were the worst though so I am trying to stay positive!

Day 3: Hurt like a bitch. That’s it.

Day 4: A little better. Better with pain meds of course.

Day 5 of recovery Day 5 of recovering and I had the best sleep i’ve had yet. I am able to breathe out of my nose (well the left part because it hurt too bad to clean out the other side) but so far I am doing ok. There is still a lot of pain in my throat but I’ve been still doing a dose of Tylenol every 4 hours. I even set an alarm to make sure that I don’t sleep through the 4 hours and wake up in worse pain. I have been sucking on numbing lollies and am currently drinking a smoothie because of how sore the throat is right now. Hoping to eat some banana pudding soon but everytime I down the Tylenol, my throat really burns for like 20 minutes or so. I am hoping to just rest mostly today and hopefully the scabs are healing well and they fall out soon. I am tired of feeling like this.

Day 6 of recovery 12:19pm Bad nights sleep last night. Woke up very nauseated and really bad acid reflex. Thought I was going to throw up straight acid. I am in a lot of pain today which is weird because yesterday was pretty good. I guess the scabs are just forming more or getting ready to decrease idk. But this shit fucking hurts I am so tired of being in pain and wanting to vomit. (Update: the whole day continued to get worse. I was in soooo much pain esp. at night) I also had HORRIBLE acid reflux.

Now it is the beginning of day 7 and I feel the scabs and my breath smells soooooo bad. Like literal dragon breath. It’s gross. I am hoping this is the last of it because so far my recovery has been pretty painful and I have been very nauseous for most of it. My nose is healing just fine and I am able to breathe out of it but good lord….the throat…just killer.

  1. Update: Finished day 7 coming in as the day with the most pain so far. It is currently 4:30 in the morning and I just had a swig of hyrdocodine to relieve the pain. Day 7 I was nearly paralyzed from how bad I was feeling from the hydro…but it was the only way I was going to get rid of the intense pain I was feeling. I went about 8 hours before the next time I used it because I didn’t want to still feel weak from it so I switched it for Tylenol I was prescribed even though that burns my throat and makes me cough. I feel like my scabs are beginning to come off because I see some regular skin patches in the back of my throat whenever I look. However, on the right side, there is still a puffy white/yellow scab thats just hanging there. It feels soooo gross. I am hoping day 8 goes by a little smoother and that it is the last day of this type of pain. I just want to sleep. And plus my college graduation is Saturday and I want to be able to make it to that! At this point I just don’t know. My body is just so tired.

    1. Hang in there Haley! You are in the very worst of it right now. It WILL get better! Have you tried sleeping propped up in a recliner? Might help. Congrat’s on graduation!!!!!!
