Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Crying. Just… Crying

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : So I woke up this morning with a dry throat. I wasn’t able to sleep more than 30 minutes at a time without coughing. Even while drinking water, my throat has been so dry, it’s like it just isn’t staying moist. I got so fed up, I asked my mom to go buy me a humidifier today. I know I’m a little late, I should have had it from the beginning, but I guess I thought I really didn’t need it. My post-op appointment is in 1 week and I really can’t wait. I definitely have a few questions to ask him! So, I finally got the nerve up to look into my throat, and even though it was a little hard to see, I do see a lot of gray areas. I thought I lost more scabs than I see in my throat, so I was wondering whether or not all of the gray areas are scabs, or if some of it is not scabs. I was told that it is all scabs, so I guess the scabs are going to take longer to fall off than I thought. So, I thought I was doing really well today and then all of a sudden my throat started squeezing really tightly when I swallowed. I slept for about an hour and woke up and it was gone. After talking to my dad who has dealt with panic attacks his whole life, he confirmed that he has had the same thing before and it is in fact mini panic attacks. Great, panic attacks – that’s all I need! I had one in the afternoon and then another one at night. The best way for me to deal with it is to sleep through it.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : day 8..I thought someone had tried to bite off the back of my tongue and tried to scrape the white spots off with a nail filer…Also my feet were swelling, and I began to have a migraine and vomit, I was afraid i was going to rip my stitches..they had become so big me and my bf had named them “shrek ” feet

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : day 8 today and I felt terrible when I woke up! The pain was like a bruised/burning pain. I also feel like I have hay fever(which I don’t). However it’s now lunchtime and I feel considerably better. It feels like day 7 which I can cope with. Hoping day 10 will be the major turnaround day. I swear this feels like the longest recovery!

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Day 8. 33 yrs old. Thanks for the info on the swollen tongue and the marks on it from my teeth. That makes total sense!! My throat feels much better, but the difficulty in eating seems to be coming from the underside of my tongue and my jaw. I will continue to take it easy in hopes that everything will continue to heal up. Im down 12 pounds. Its going to be hard not to put all of the weight back on. I’m starving!! lol

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Days 8 – today – Pain has slowly begun to decrease, however, it’s remained at about a 3/4 for the last two days. However, my body has slowly begun to feel better. I feel like a human again. That’s a refreshing feeling.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Days 8-10–able to eat a little bit more everyday, but it was different every day. Pudding and mac & cheese were good one day, bad the next. Chicken noodle soup was also good, couldn’t eat anymore jello 😛 Throat still sore, still doing the Advil/Tylenol rotation. Waiting for scabs to fall off, but throat still all white.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Day 8, Ok I am feeling much better. Last night was rough. I had taken my pain meds around 11:30 PM , and around 12:15 my earache was unbearable. I had a problem eating yesterday. I just wanted to eat a Popsicle. I got down on my knees and prayed to God to let the pain go away so i could eat. A few minutes later, the pain in my ears subsided (Thanks God!). I ate 2 Popsicles.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 :Day 8- while I felt really crappy all day long I stayed home all day & rested and this evening I feel just a lil better.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Recovery Day 8 (post-op day 9):
Had another relapse of pain today on my right side and into my right ear. At this point I am just so exhausted from lack of sleep and lack of proper food. I had my post-op appointment with my surgeon today. He said i still have a ways to go but it is beginning to heal. He said my tonsils were extremely large and that the tonsil beds (where the tonsils were) that are now left behind are so massive that it will take extra time to heal since there is so much damaged tissue back there from the cauterization. I was able to eat some of a baked potato today with cheese and bacon.

  1. Day 8-
    22 yo, Female.
No one talks about the burnt taste / burnt flesh taste and smell? It’s all I can taste or smell even when I eat something. It’s disgusting. Does that go away? Today my throat feels tighter. Ear pain is medium/ the same it’s been for the last 3 days. I went to the ER day 6 because I had ate or drank a single drop the first 6 days. I couldn’t. So they hydrated me in IV and gave toradol which helps with the swelling. After that I was able to drink 4 bottles of water and a slushee and some scrambled eggs! Since then I haven’t ate or drank much as the swelling seemed to have come back to the prior level / throat and swallowing pain. But i can do about 1/2 a bottle of water a day ish. I still can’t talk. When I try it hurts but it just sounds so weird lol. Sleeping I seem to wake up coughing every hour ish. I got hydrocodone and it burns like a mother lol. Any other tips? Main concern is when can I go back to work, when can I talk, and when can I have a burger and a beer? Please tell me the day you guys were able to be 100% normal!!!!!! 2. Day 8: Today the pain is significantly worse. My scabs still haven’t fallen off all the way but they’re starting to come out in little pieces. My ears hurt so much. I’m officially out of my prescription medication so now I’m just taking Tylenol. It hurts to swallow just as much as it hurt on day 3&4. I’ve been eating solid food since day 3 so I plan to eat solids today.

  3. Thank you everyone for posting on here, it has made me feel so much less alone. My friends keep asking me how I feel after getting my tonsils out and I try to explain that I’m in so much pain but they don’t understand, so it’s nice having people to relate to. I’ve been in such excruciating pain all night (feels like a cheese grater to my tonsils and ears) and I’ve been unable to move at times because of how painful it is. It’s great knowing I’m not alone and knowing that I’m not the first that has had this experience. I’m hoping that everyone on here is doing great and recovering well. I wish everyone the best!!

  4. Day 8 – I only had to wake up once through the Night to go to the bathroom and take my medicine. Everytime I wake up my ears and jaw hurt really bad. The oxy has been an absolute life saver. Pain was worse until about 10am then I forced myself to eat some ramen. It did hurt but I needed to make myself eat. I ended up napping and waking up to pain in my throat and ears. The throat pain never stopped for me. I’ve drunken so much water and lost ab 15-20 lbs in the past 8 days. Slushees, mashed potato’s and gravy, and fries have been the easiest for me to eat. I can feel the areas that hurt the most are where the scabs are falling off. I haven’t had much bleeding aside from little specs of blood I can see on my throat. My right side has hurt significantly more no idea why. The only time I’ve coughed was from drinking too fast/ much at a time and just swallowing some air with my water or liquid medicines. I’ve been too scared too cough bc of all the horror stories lol. I hope the next two days are easier. Man this sucks

  5. Day 8: woke up throat was dry and hurt when I spit it was a little bleeding somr scabs were off, i took my medicine pain got better but then I start spitting up a lot of blood a lot of the scabs came up I think (I’m typing this while going thru it) it’s 1:42pm now I have been spitting up blood and mucus before 10:00am this has been the worse day so far I try to sleep it away but I can’t sleep I’m very dizzy ,nauseous I think I had a panic attack ? but yeah I’ll come back later

      1. Day 8

My day seems to be a lot like everyone else’s. The liquid hydrocodone burns the ever living shit out of my mouth and throat, I switched to pain pills this afternoon. My pain is constantly changing from different parts of my mouth and throat. It’s never the same. Today I received a pretty insulting comment, my GF told me that I don’t handle pain well? No big deal it’s just a major surgery in the softest of tissue (FU). The only thing I’ve been able to put down is warm water, coffee, tea, and bone broth. I believe that I’ve lost roughly 24lbs over this evolution and we aren’t done yet. I’m a 47 year old retired Marine, but this shit is too much! I had my Mom come and stay for the weekend and a best friend come and hangout as well. This too shall pass, in the meantime I’ve been making deals with any entity that will listen and help pass this faster. FML
