Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Crying. Just… Crying

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : So I woke up this morning with a dry throat. I wasn’t able to sleep more than 30 minutes at a time without coughing. Even while drinking water, my throat has been so dry, it’s like it just isn’t staying moist. I got so fed up, I asked my mom to go buy me a humidifier today. I know I’m a little late, I should have had it from the beginning, but I guess I thought I really didn’t need it. My post-op appointment is in 1 week and I really can’t wait. I definitely have a few questions to ask him! So, I finally got the nerve up to look into my throat, and even though it was a little hard to see, I do see a lot of gray areas. I thought I lost more scabs than I see in my throat, so I was wondering whether or not all of the gray areas are scabs, or if some of it is not scabs. I was told that it is all scabs, so I guess the scabs are going to take longer to fall off than I thought. So, I thought I was doing really well today and then all of a sudden my throat started squeezing really tightly when I swallowed. I slept for about an hour and woke up and it was gone. After talking to my dad who has dealt with panic attacks his whole life, he confirmed that he has had the same thing before and it is in fact mini panic attacks. Great, panic attacks – that’s all I need! I had one in the afternoon and then another one at night. The best way for me to deal with it is to sleep through it.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : day 8..I thought someone had tried to bite off the back of my tongue and tried to scrape the white spots off with a nail filer…Also my feet were swelling, and I began to have a migraine and vomit, I was afraid i was going to rip my stitches..they had become so big me and my bf had named them “shrek ” feet

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : day 8 today and I felt terrible when I woke up! The pain was like a bruised/burning pain. I also feel like I have hay fever(which I don’t). However it’s now lunchtime and I feel considerably better. It feels like day 7 which I can cope with. Hoping day 10 will be the major turnaround day. I swear this feels like the longest recovery!

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Day 8. 33 yrs old. Thanks for the info on the swollen tongue and the marks on it from my teeth. That makes total sense!! My throat feels much better, but the difficulty in eating seems to be coming from the underside of my tongue and my jaw. I will continue to take it easy in hopes that everything will continue to heal up. Im down 12 pounds. Its going to be hard not to put all of the weight back on. I’m starving!! lol

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Days 8 – today – Pain has slowly begun to decrease, however, it’s remained at about a 3/4 for the last two days. However, my body has slowly begun to feel better. I feel like a human again. That’s a refreshing feeling.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Days 8-10–able to eat a little bit more everyday, but it was different every day. Pudding and mac & cheese were good one day, bad the next. Chicken noodle soup was also good, couldn’t eat anymore jello 😛 Throat still sore, still doing the Advil/Tylenol rotation. Waiting for scabs to fall off, but throat still all white.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Day 8, Ok I am feeling much better. Last night was rough. I had taken my pain meds around 11:30 PM , and around 12:15 my earache was unbearable. I had a problem eating yesterday. I just wanted to eat a Popsicle. I got down on my knees and prayed to God to let the pain go away so i could eat. A few minutes later, the pain in my ears subsided (Thanks God!). I ate 2 Popsicles.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 :Day 8- while I felt really crappy all day long I stayed home all day & rested and this evening I feel just a lil better.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Recovery Day 8 (post-op day 9):
Had another relapse of pain today on my right side and into my right ear. At this point I am just so exhausted from lack of sleep and lack of proper food. I had my post-op appointment with my surgeon today. He said i still have a ways to go but it is beginning to heal. He said my tonsils were extremely large and that the tonsil beds (where the tonsils were) that are now left behind are so massive that it will take extra time to heal since there is so much damaged tissue back there from the cauterization. I was able to eat some of a baked potato today with cheese and bacon.

  1. I’m on Day 8 of my tonsillectomy recovery & this is finally when I had to comment on it and join in on this forum (which I have been checking daily). I’m a 24 year-old female & got my tonsils out bc I had recurring tonsil stones (so gross). I thought this was going to be a piece of cake for me as I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I even have a job interview scheduled for tomorrow that I know I have to reschedule now… I thought I’d feel better by now!!!!!

Woke up this morning at 4:30am w/ an unbearable migraine. All I keep reading is that it’s important to stay hydrated so I went to get some water (my actual throat doesn’t hurt THAT bad – it’s my ears, headache, and all around feeling of being weak due to lack of sleep and proper nutrition that kills me). I laid back down in bed & felt completely sick, and took hydrocodone liquid to see if that would help. Nausea starts to kick in, so I run to the toilet & start throwing up mostly stomach acid (nice feeling on my throat which STILL has the scabs… Can they freaking fall off already?!?!).

Overall this has been miserable. And don’t even get me started about the cabin fever I’ve been experiencing. I’m ready to be out in the real world again…. It’s depressing! Just when you think you’re getting well…. you start puking out of no where in the middle of the night. Migraine + nausea = kill me ?

Sidenote: not sure why my scabs haven’t fallen off yet. I started gargling with salt water twice a day on Day 2 or 3. They used to be really white but now it’s like a marble looking white yellow red???

WHEN WILL I NO LONGER FEEL PAIN

  2. I am on day 8 of my recovery and so far this has been the best day so far!! Days 1-3 were the honeymoon days I was in a drug induced haze but because the hydrocodone made me throw up i stopped taking it and on day 3 I developed thrush so that added lots of pain to this wonderful recovery. Days 4-7 were some of the hardest days I’ve ever been through! Between panic attacks and the amount of pain I was in I honestly thought dying couldn’t be much worse! Nobody told me that this recovery was just as much if not more mental then it is physical..But just wait there is a light at the end of this absolutely terrible horrible tunnel! Day 8! It came in so beautifully ! I slept through the night and woke up and swallowing wasn’t like swallowing small razors I was able to eat almost a full bowl of chicken noodle soup and for my first real solid food I ate a hot dog ( probably not a good thing to start with as now my stomach is rebelling against me) but I will take this over how I felt for the previous day’s. Hoping the rest of recovery goes this smoothly!! Reading this blog has really been a life saver during this recovery and I couldn’t be more grateful for everybody’s tips and comments about their own recovery!!

  3. I had a t&a, turbinate reduction, septoplasty, and my deviated septum fixed on May 31st. I’m 26 and I am thinking…. Can death really be that bad? Lol… Seriously, though… This sucks. I ended up with thrush on day 6 and I threw up all over my moms bathroom today which is weird because I haven’t really eaten in 7 days. I pray it gets better

  4. Day 7 and 8. My daughter (11) and I (35) both had T&As on May 25th. I had in previous comments said they were tissue welding; however, they were not. My error. Day 7; Around 3 in the morning I cough out what looks like an enormous tonsil stone. My breath is instantly better on the right side of my throat. Maybe it was a scab, maybe just some food that had been decaying in the cavity. This makes swallowing worse. Day 7 and 8 were much the same for me, a lot of salivating and not much swallowing. I stopped sleeping because anytime I fell asleep my mouth would dry out and I would experience pain, but besides swallowing and getting dried out, it was manageable. No crying moments for me. My daughter had more ear pain on Day 7, but by Day 8 she was ready to be done with the whole procedure and was forced to continue to take it easy. Re meds, she continued hers both days on schedule. I started decreasing mine.

  5. 26 yr old – Post op day 7 came and some scabs came off left tonsils. Stinging but looking up. Ate a pear… And some pasta… Bad idea. 2 am on day 8 came and bleeding…. Bleeding… Bleeding…then bleeding stops and starts again. Look in back of throat and it’s a waterfall of goopy blood all the way into my throat… Blood clot formed. Went to ER and couldn’t even swallow or speak around it. Almost passed out walking from ER reception to my room. Had to go back under for surgery and have the clot removed and bleeding area recauterized.. So back to post op day 1 for left tonsil..scared it’ll happen again.. But do not push yourself to eat! Even if you feel you can. Wait until at least day 10 or out of the ‘bleeding’ woods. Now gotta watch the right tonsil and add another week of healing for the left. Throat keeps wanting to cough too.. Terrifying.
