Adult Tonsillectomy- Glen’s Tips
Hello, my name is Glen and I just did my tonsillectomy operation exactly 4 weeks ago.
Today is my first day back at work. I heard many stories regard the recovery and was a little bit worried.
It’s not an easy recovery but if you do a little bit of sacrifice and try to eat from the very first day that will help a lot.
My first 2 days after the operation pain wasn’t bad, I was still under anesthetic so I was OK (pain 2/10). But on day 3 -5 pain started to increase (pain 5/10). On day 6 worst pain started to happen, when I tried to eat I was suffering severe pain in my ears, worst was my right ear, (pain 9/10). I was taking solphadine, 2 every 4hrs, that helped a little. But something I made wrong and that doctor got angry about was that I supposed good the meds for 7days and I kept taking them for two weeks. The doctor told me to stop them and that I was going to run in the withdrawal symptoms of the meds, and believe me I don’t want to dream about them again. I did 4 days with severe headache and stomach. From day 8 till 14 pain started to decrease. Something that used to help me in the first 3 days were popsicles to cool your throat. From day 14 – I felt better but not as good as to go to work since my work is outside and night shifts and I didn’t want to risk that I will get sick again so I decided to make 4 weeks at rest before going back to work. It is even important to have someone at home who you ll find him and angel when pain will be at its worst, but don’t worry everything will pass and you ll get better. I’m on the 4 the week and back to work, still throat a little bit sore, even morning still getting up with dried throat, but I forgot the pain. Something that I recommend is to try and eat from the first day. If possible exactly after the operation, something I did. I think it helped a lot to scratch the scabs that will form from day 5. I know its difficult to swallow , cause it was for me but the more you try to eat the quicker you ll get better.
If I will be help to anyone or you ll have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me I ll try to help. 🙂 wish good luck. Glen
