Eating After Tonsillectomy- AJ’s Story

I had my tonsils out 2 weeks ago.

The pain has been terrible, I won’t lie. But the most challenging thing is eating solids. Not because of the pain of swallowing, but because when I put food in my mouth and chew, I sort of lose parts of the food at the back of my mouth as it slides to the gaps where my tonsils used to be and I start choking. It’s really freaking me out to the point where I don’t want to eat anymore.

When I chewed before, my tonsils were so large that when I chewed on one side, the tonsils would act as a barrier and I knew where food was as I got ready to swallow.

I have to over-chew my food anyway as I have acid reflux and it hurts my oesophagus to swallow large lumps but without the tonsils I’m finding that I don’t get as much time to chew as I used to and I’m forced into either spitting out the food or swallowing large lumps and it potentially getting stuck.

In a real dilemma here. If anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated. Finding it a struggle to relax and eat normally….
