Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Crying. Just… Crying

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : So I woke up this morning with a dry throat. I wasn’t able to sleep more than 30 minutes at a time without coughing. Even while drinking water, my throat has been so dry, it’s like it just isn’t staying moist. I got so fed up, I asked my mom to go buy me a humidifier today. I know I’m a little late, I should have had it from the beginning, but I guess I thought I really didn’t need it. My post-op appointment is in 1 week and I really can’t wait. I definitely have a few questions to ask him! So, I finally got the nerve up to look into my throat, and even though it was a little hard to see, I do see a lot of gray areas. I thought I lost more scabs than I see in my throat, so I was wondering whether or not all of the gray areas are scabs, or if some of it is not scabs. I was told that it is all scabs, so I guess the scabs are going to take longer to fall off than I thought. So, I thought I was doing really well today and then all of a sudden my throat started squeezing really tightly when I swallowed. I slept for about an hour and woke up and it was gone. After talking to my dad who has dealt with panic attacks his whole life, he confirmed that he has had the same thing before and it is in fact mini panic attacks. Great, panic attacks – that’s all I need! I had one in the afternoon and then another one at night. The best way for me to deal with it is to sleep through it.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : day 8..I thought someone had tried to bite off the back of my tongue and tried to scrape the white spots off with a nail filer…Also my feet were swelling, and I began to have a migraine and vomit, I was afraid i was going to rip my stitches..they had become so big me and my bf had named them “shrek ” feet

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : day 8 today and I felt terrible when I woke up! The pain was like a bruised/burning pain. I also feel like I have hay fever(which I don’t). However it’s now lunchtime and I feel considerably better. It feels like day 7 which I can cope with. Hoping day 10 will be the major turnaround day. I swear this feels like the longest recovery!

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Day 8. 33 yrs old. Thanks for the info on the swollen tongue and the marks on it from my teeth. That makes total sense!! My throat feels much better, but the difficulty in eating seems to be coming from the underside of my tongue and my jaw. I will continue to take it easy in hopes that everything will continue to heal up. Im down 12 pounds. Its going to be hard not to put all of the weight back on. I’m starving!! lol

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Days 8 – today – Pain has slowly begun to decrease, however, it’s remained at about a 3/4 for the last two days. However, my body has slowly begun to feel better. I feel like a human again. That’s a refreshing feeling.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Days 8-10–able to eat a little bit more everyday, but it was different every day. Pudding and mac & cheese were good one day, bad the next. Chicken noodle soup was also good, couldn’t eat anymore jello 😛 Throat still sore, still doing the Advil/Tylenol rotation. Waiting for scabs to fall off, but throat still all white.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Day 8, Ok I am feeling much better. Last night was rough. I had taken my pain meds around 11:30 PM , and around 12:15 my earache was unbearable. I had a problem eating yesterday. I just wanted to eat a Popsicle. I got down on my knees and prayed to God to let the pain go away so i could eat. A few minutes later, the pain in my ears subsided (Thanks God!). I ate 2 Popsicles.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 :Day 8- while I felt really crappy all day long I stayed home all day & rested and this evening I feel just a lil better.

Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Recovery Day 8 (post-op day 9):
Had another relapse of pain today on my right side and into my right ear. At this point I am just so exhausted from lack of sleep and lack of proper food. I had my post-op appointment with my surgeon today. He said i still have a ways to go but it is beginning to heal. He said my tonsils were extremely large and that the tonsil beds (where the tonsils were) that are now left behind are so massive that it will take extra time to heal since there is so much damaged tissue back there from the cauterization. I was able to eat some of a baked potato today with cheese and bacon.

  1. UK patient 57..day 8 ..4.30am..still no sleep. Pain i left jaw/ear/throat. Drymouth. Despite drinking loads water. Yawning and coughing are a nighmare.

    1. Ugh – Sorry to hear Bernadine. I kind of threw sleep schedules out the window and slept when I could. I watched a lot of Netflix in the middle of the night. Have you tried sleeping in a recliner?

  2. Blood, blood everywhere. So yesterday it felt really sore after dinner and when I came to bed I started feeling blood taste in my mouth. I got up and went to spit it out and I must’ve spat half a can of blood, I was getting really freaked out and ready to go to the ER but I was even more worried about them having to touch it again and delay my recovery even further. I stuck it out, gargled, spat more blood ate an ice popsicle and watched the tennis and eventually it stopped bleeding. I feel asleep and woke up today with a real sore and tender throat. The most of today has been just more of the same, bearable pain, difficulty swallowing, wishing for this to end 🙁
I had to do some work skype calls and had to talk for a while, definitely not a good idea! Throat was on fire after talking for an hour. Pressing on.

  3. My 8yr old had hers out January 2 and OMG…. She hasn’t ate in 7 days and in constant pain. It hurts her to swallow basically anything.?

Day 8 got my tonsils the day after Christmas, has been pretty bad but today has been the best day since day one except my right side is super pain ful but I’m able to start eating more solid foods and the key has definitely been keeping hydrated. I hope I can fully recover in the next couple days. I’ve noticed most my scabs have fallen off so hopefully it will heal so I can go back to my normal diet.

    1. Omg I’m 14 and had mine out 2 days after Christmas it’s day 8 for me I’m in totally pain don’t know what to any advice

I got my tonsils removed the day after Christmas and let me tell you..it’s been hell. My surgery was at 6:30 am so that night I felt fine so I went out to the zoo. I know, I’m stupid. I felt it days 2-5. I barely took one drink and had nothing to eat until Monday. I quit taking my pain medication that Thursday because I noticed I was getting low and ready these daily let me know it was about to get bad and I didn’t want to run out. I became very dehydrated and my parents were scared. I did manage Sunday to drink a little bit of gatoraid but it burned so bad. Turns out it was the Raseberry Lemonade and it contains an acid. I was in pain. I also found anything cold was a no no. When I was in pain only a heating pad would stop it but it made my swelling worse. I honestly wish I never had this surgery in the first place but I know it’s almost over.

I wish I would have stay hydrated! Now here on day 8 I am still struggling to drink with a pain and I think my scabs are beginning to break off. I think I had a chunk in my throat but I’m not sure.

    1. ya’ll god bless us. this surgery is from the deep depths of hell. I never got sick in relation to the throat until this year, my first year of college. bruh. i got tonsillitis 6 times in one month. Severe tonsillitis. I was hospitalized for 5 days. On and off of antibiotics, my body was being ripped apart. The day after christmas, I woke up in the worst pain of my life. Merry Christmas! my tonsillectomy was already scheduled for jan 2. i called him and told him the tonsillitis was back. he prescribed more antibiotics that basically my body was rejecting. went Jan 2nd for my tonsillectomy, and the doctor discovered that i had an abcess in my tonsil ON TOP OF tonsillitis. so when i had the tonsillitis, i wasn’t eating. now that im recovering, im still not eating. this chick just wants a damn nice ass meal and its all i think about. god bless us all. this recovery has been the worst days of my life. we are survivors. #teamtonsillectomy.

      1. Girl I feel you!!! I’m 21 and on day 7 and I’m in hell. I swear I’m getting worse…I went out a few nights ago and had a drink, talked more than I should have and I’m in so much fucking pain I don’t know what to do w myself. I’m almost out of my hydrocodone syrup and if they refuse to give me any more then I’m hitting the streets to find some cause I cannot deal. I’m supposed to go back to work on Thursday, I’m a server, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to then. The pain is indescribable but I know it has to get better at some point…..

      2. I know your pain! I went through the same situation but I had mono with the tonsillitis from November to December! My surgery was January 9th. Oh my god this has been the worst pain my whole life! To top all this, this is my senior year of high school 😐 I’ve missed so much school in the past few months! I just hope they let me graduate still!

      3. I feel your pain. All I want is a cheesesteak. I can’t have. And my body won’t let me. This is terrible. I had an abscess too and the healing time is longer and I hate it. I was so sick for so long and antibiotics weren’t working and now I feel sick all over it’s rediculous and enough is enough.
