Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Crying. Just… Crying
Tonsillectomy Day 8 : So I woke up this morning with a dry throat. I wasn’t able to sleep more than 30 minutes at a time without coughing. Even while drinking water, my throat has been so dry, it’s like it just isn’t staying moist. I got so fed up, I asked my mom to go buy me a humidifier today. I know I’m a little late, I should have had it from the beginning, but I guess I thought I really didn’t need it. My post-op appointment is in 1 week and I really can’t wait. I definitely have a few questions to ask him! So, I finally got the nerve up to look into my throat, and even though it was a little hard to see, I do see a lot of gray areas. I thought I lost more scabs than I see in my throat, so I was wondering whether or not all of the gray areas are scabs, or if some of it is not scabs. I was told that it is all scabs, so I guess the scabs are going to take longer to fall off than I thought. So, I thought I was doing really well today and then all of a sudden my throat started squeezing really tightly when I swallowed. I slept for about an hour and woke up and it was gone. After talking to my dad who has dealt with panic attacks his whole life, he confirmed that he has had the same thing before and it is in fact mini panic attacks. Great, panic attacks – that’s all I need! I had one in the afternoon and then another one at night. The best way for me to deal with it is to sleep through it.
Tonsillectomy Day 8 : day 8..I thought someone had tried to bite off the back of my tongue and tried to scrape the white spots off with a nail filer…Also my feet were swelling, and I began to have a migraine and vomit, I was afraid i was going to rip my stitches..they had become so big me and my bf had named them “shrek ” feet
Tonsillectomy Day 8 : day 8 today and I felt terrible when I woke up! The pain was like a bruised/burning pain. I also feel like I have hay fever(which I don’t). However it’s now lunchtime and I feel considerably better. It feels like day 7 which I can cope with. Hoping day 10 will be the major turnaround day. I swear this feels like the longest recovery!
Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Day 8. 33 yrs old. Thanks for the info on the swollen tongue and the marks on it from my teeth. That makes total sense!! My throat feels much better, but the difficulty in eating seems to be coming from the underside of my tongue and my jaw. I will continue to take it easy in hopes that everything will continue to heal up. Im down 12 pounds. Its going to be hard not to put all of the weight back on. I’m starving!! lol
Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Days 8 – today – Pain has slowly begun to decrease, however, it’s remained at about a 3/4 for the last two days. However, my body has slowly begun to feel better. I feel like a human again. That’s a refreshing feeling.
Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Days 8-10–able to eat a little bit more everyday, but it was different every day. Pudding and mac & cheese were good one day, bad the next. Chicken noodle soup was also good, couldn’t eat anymore jello 😛 Throat still sore, still doing the Advil/Tylenol rotation. Waiting for scabs to fall off, but throat still all white.
Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Day 8, Ok I am feeling much better. Last night was rough. I had taken my pain meds around 11:30 PM , and around 12:15 my earache was unbearable. I had a problem eating yesterday. I just wanted to eat a Popsicle. I got down on my knees and prayed to God to let the pain go away so i could eat. A few minutes later, the pain in my ears subsided (Thanks God!). I ate 2 Popsicles.
Tonsillectomy Day 8 :Day 8- while I felt really crappy all day long I stayed home all day & rested and this evening I feel just a lil better.
Tonsillectomy Day 8 : Recovery Day 8 (post-op day 9):
Had another relapse of pain today on my right side and into my right ear. At this point I am just so exhausted from lack of sleep and lack of proper food. I had my post-op appointment with my surgeon today. He said i still have a ways to go but it is beginning to heal. He said my tonsils were extremely large and that the tonsil beds (where the tonsils were) that are now left behind are so massive that it will take extra time to heal since there is so much damaged tissue back there from the cauterization. I was able to eat some of a baked potato today with cheese and bacon.
I’m on day 8 post op and i think i am on the home stretch. People that are going in for a tonsillectomy should really be prohibited from looking on some websites, it is true that you hear more bad than good! and that scared the crap out of me! I have to say the pain has NOT been anywhere near as bad as 99% of others and my doc said that i would be in a lot more pain than the normal person. Mind you it does hurt and i think it hurt more last night than the week before. The part that i did not like was the swelling, i can deal with pain but the swelling and anxiety was a bit harder to deal with. I think i may have a very high pain threshold. I have been feeling more like myself over the last few days. I didn’t know that the ‘scabs’ fall off? i read that the ‘scabs’ are the white coating, so they don’t really fall off, just fade away, unless you have a dry throat so then they would turn into scabs and fall off. My’n have been fading away slowly and i have a few small spots that bleed every now and again, not to the amount that its even a drop of blood, is that whats mean to happen?
Day 8 – I’m thirsty and starving!!! I can’t eat more than a few spoonfuls of yogurt. I tried the oxy I was given yesterday, but because I couldn’t eat a single bite before I took it, I ended up sick ALL afternoon. I had to have my mom call the Dr. for a prescription for anti-nausea pills. Fun times. So I’m sticking to Tylenol, which doesn’t do much more than make it easy enough to drink water. Still hurts to swallow even with the tylenol.
Does anyone know how you can tell if your scabs are falling off?? I can’t open my mouth wide enough to even see if they’re there, but I think I felt them slowly fall off as random areas would start to burn and scratch for a few minutes. Eh. I guess this will be a great way to lose some weight for summer. Although, the second I’m able to I’m totally pigging out at a buffet. That dream keeps me going :p
Am I the only one with a really stinky mouth here? Smells like something died in my throat! Sister told me it stinks in a weird way and that I did not have this before my surgery. And yeah some pink saliva today but nothing more. Burning pain in throat and ice cold water makes it worse actually…cool water is best for me at this time. Still with meds…but the stink! OMG. If anyone had this , wonder if it’ll ever disappear? Wonder if it’s coz of the scabs?
I have bad breath too and I am on Day 15. Hopefully, that will go away once we are entirely healed. I can brush my teeth, and in no time, it is like I never brush them.
I can relate to that- exactly! Day 15, wow. How is it going ?
do you brush your tongue?
my doctor said that the smell was normal. dragon breath! i know its bad!
Day 8 and even though I’m starting to feel human again, ie I actually got out of my pyjamas and put on proper clothes today (yay), the pain has subsided only a tiny bit. I was really hoping I would be feeling so much better by now.
I think the scabs have come off, as my throat feels raw and burning. I’m still taking oxycodone every 4 hrs. Water, especially ice water is sooo painful to swallow. Luke warm tea is surprisingly ok though. I’m 27 F and the left side of my throat feels worse than the right, it’s much more painful.
I’m still waking up during the night in intense pain from my throat drying out, and on top of that I’m just feeling depressed 🙁 it’s silly but I feel super lazy for lying in bed for 8 days, and I’m beginning to worry about the build up of work I will have when I return to the office after my sick leave.
I’m trying to be positive though, day 7 was a noticeable difference and so was today. I can talk a bit better too. I hope I can speak normally again in a few days time.
I can only hope I improve each day, even just a little bit of progress is good. Good luck everyone
Hi Lucy. I’m also in Day 8. My scabs are falling off ir have fallen off as well and my throat is raw and burny. I also was hoping to that once they came off I would be feeling much better than I am today. I also wake in the night with pain and last night had some bleeding so I only slept maybe 90 mins. Today I’m extremely tired but did eat oatmeal and then scrambled eggs and some avocado. Good news is I saw my Dr yesterday and he said Friday should be a lot better. Hang in there. Hopefully tomorrow’s our day 🙂
Day 8 and holy geezus! The pain is stupid but I have been dealing okay alternating between the loratab and tylenol. I ate some sweet potato fries because I was feeling brave and I got a little bit more crunchy one (delicious by the way!) but oh so painful swallowing… ANYWAYS, I think it managed to take a scab on the right side off because after the pain of swallowing the delicious and wonderful fry I felt this amazing cool breeze on that spot and every time I breathe out of my nose or mouth I feel this wonderful cool sensation on it. But I’m not really sure because I haven’t seen anyone talk about what it felt like after the scabs fell off… All I know is that whatever did happen brought so much relief.
How are you feeling today? I’m on Day 8 today and according to my Dr tomorrow I should feel much better…
