Who would ever think I would be exploring tonsillectomy forums in the middle of the night, I haven’t even had an antibiotic in 26 years, I am 57 years old and its day 8 after my tonsillectomy….what a nightmare recovery! Yesterday, I went out for two hours just to “get out,” and my hair caught on fire, while talking to someone, I was leaning near a lit candle on a windowsill. This was the good part of the day!
Besides the scabs falling off, which I think started 2 days ago, the pain is unbearable. I have tried to keep drinking water, eating jello, pudding. I have kept a solid record of pain meds and antibiotics, I am decreasing pain med usage because I actually feel today like I have a normal sore throat, but it’s all the other stuff. I have also had about 6 tar like BM a day since the surgery, I read where this is the blood swallowed during surgery? Mine was called an emergency surgery, I had about 2 hours warning after visiting ER twice.
I have also lost 8 lbs, but finally ate scrambled eggs yesterday that tasted great. Some foods sting horribly, I had to turn all my natural Popsicles into unnatural to avoid the fruit citrus sting. I am up virtually all night long, I have been sleeping at most, 2 hours at a time, during the night. My tongue was badly cut and bruised as well, due to possible airway emergency issues, as it was explained to me.
Either way, I have enjoyed all of your comments and suggestions during this horrible unexpected recovery period. Thank you for having this forum, keep up the good work and good luck to each and everyone of you as you recover from tonsillectomy.
I’m sorry but I had to laugh when you said your hair catching on fire was the best part of your day LOL. I hope you’re feeling better now. <3
