I had my tonsillectomy on Thursday 29/10. I had my surgery quite early and it was my first time going under. I’m 21 years old and I have been on the waiting list for over a year to get them out.
I’m currently on day 4 and to be honest the pain is bearable, day 2 and 3 were horrendous. I cried more times than I can count on day 3, I had severe ear pain.I’ve lost just over a kilo already but have been eating and drinking quite well. Been having toast and bread. Then today got into some custard and mouse and some canned fruit which did help.
Had to stop the codeine medication because I was just feeling so sick in the stomach so I’m only taking panadol right now.
I am so sure I can feel the scabs on my throat. Almost like I want to swallow it but it will never go down. I’m not sure if this is all normal?
Rebecca,
We had our tonsillectomies on the exact same day! So I know how you feel! I too can feel the scabs as the ones on the right feel like they already want to peel off. I’ve been using ice packs still when the meds don’t cover the pain and it seems to help
You will know when the scabs come off. There will be a searing pain and then you will feel the blood. Don’t panic, just gently rinse your mouth out and relax. I am day 11 today and this happened to me on day 10.
