  1. I had my surgery yesterday and it is harder to swallow than yesterday. I can not move my tongue is that OK? I tried to look at my throat but I can’t push my tongue down and if I try it is extremely painful.

  2. Hi All,

I wanted some advice really. I am 3 weeks post op from having my tonsillectomy which I can’t say was a smooth ride at all but after reading others experiences on other forums I was quite lucky as I suffered no bleeding.

For the past week though I have had something lodged in my throat and it seems to be attached somehow… I have tried to hack it up as they call it and with a large amount of gagging it is still lodged there.

The white gunk as I call it, which were the scabs have now gone from where my tonsils were now but as soon as I fall asleep I wake an hour later unable to swallow because of whatever is lodged in my throat, I am now having great difficulty being able to eat as the food is getting stuck and when I bend over so my head is near enough touching my feet I feel whatever is lodged in my throat move to further forward which makes me gag.

Does anyone know what this is or have had the same problem. I saw my ENT consultant on Tuesday 6th in which he tried to feed a camera through my nose but didn’t have much luck as I was gagging so he didn’t manage to see anything, so he sent me home with no explanation.

I am now getting so stressed out and upset as it is very uncomfortable and just the feeling of something stuck in my throat is making me gag all the time and near enough vomit.

If anyone could help with advice it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Ellie

  3. I had some quick questions that I was wondering if you might have answers to. I had my tonsillectomy yesterday and things are starting to clear up in my de-fogged brain.

    1. My ENT doctor said something about running tests on my tonsils, and he might have mentioned wanting to do a biopsy of the tonsils. What are the reasons that they do tests and do a biopsy.

    2. I have had some numbness in the tip of my tongue, is that normal?

    1. Taylor, my doc also had my tonsils biopsied. According to her, because one was swelling terribly and the other wasn’t. She said “anytime there is asymmetry in the body, it is a concern” for various reasons (not to scare you, but she mentioned cancer or thyroid). Freaked me out to think about it.
Better safe and tested than not.

Good luck! It’s a tough road, but now I’m 2.5 months post-op, and so glad to be rid of the quite literal white elephant in my throat!

    2. Hi, Taylor:)
I’m on day 4 going on day 5 right now. What the surgeon did was send your tonsils to pathology to get tested. Pathology is a department in the hospital that looks at pieces of the human body and decides if there is something wrong. Your ENT sending your tonsils to pathology doesn’t mean that she thinks there is something wrong, it just protocol. Nothing to be worried about:)
The numbness on the tip of your tongue is probably because of the meds you are taking. Did you have any numbing spray or numbing pops? Some of the time doctors will give you those but the problem with the lollipops are that they basically numb your tongue more than your throat!
Hope you start to feel better soon. Wishing you a peaceful and pain-free recovery!

  4. I just had a few questions:

1.) Is it normal for my body to wake up just in time for the next dose of pain meds? It seems like I wake up every hour on the hour or pretty close, and when I sleep longer I wake up 20-30 minutes before I am due for a dose of Lortab, once I take the drug and it kicks in it is off to sleep again.

2.) is it normal for the tip of my tongue to be numb? Follow up to that, Why is the tip of my tongue numb?

3.) The doctor said that they would be running some tests on my removed tonsils (he also said that there was some scar tissue on the muscles behind the tonsils, so it was a good thing that they came out), he said that they may also do a biopsy of the tonsils, why do they do these tests? I was too out of it to ask when in the recovery room.

  5. Not sure if this forum is working correctly. I don’t see a “forum” of any kind here, just this reply form.

    1. Not on this page tho – weird. Not sure how you ended up here. If you search the site by your topic, or simply go to the home page, you should find plenty of interaction. I hope you are well!
