I got zofran and I haven’t thrown up since! Thank the lords. Day 6 morning was horrible. I couldn’t help but just sob because I was just so tired of feeling like crap all the time and wanted to give up. It doesn’t help that there’s yummy food commercials every commercial break that makes my mouth water! Ugh. I took my Percocet at 12:00 pm and it helped take the edge off but I still couldn’t eat or drink much.
I took a nap at 3 and woke up at 4 and for some reason when I woke up, I felt soooo much better! I looked in my mouth and on one side pretty much my whole scab was gone. I’m pretty sure that’s why I felt so much better. I finally could eat and drink with ease! I had a whole cup of chicken noodle soup and it was lovely. My stomach was so thankful. From day 2, I’ve had ice packs glued to my throat to help the pain. For some reason yesterday, cold stuff starting stinging a lot. I can’t even drink cold water or even room temp. So I’ve switched to warm teas and it really eases my throat! I also have a heating pad to put on my ears/throat. Ugh the ear pain is NOT fun. And the pain set back in at about 9:00 pm but not the worst pain I’ve been in so tolerable. I set alarms multiple times a night to take my meds as well as just to get sips of water so my mouth doesn’t dry out (I would do that too if I were you!). My throat whenever I swallow feels like someone is stabbing me. I can tell it’s my scab getting ready to come off though so I accept the pain with open arms! I’m so ready for my other scab to fall off because ever since my first side fell off it feels soooo much better. So now it’s morning of day 7 and I figured I’d write my story on here to hopefully help anyone or relate to anyone!
Get a humidifier! I leave mine on all day all night.
Ensure is a thinner nutrition shake and there’s some with extra calories and extra protein, get some of those they are easier to get down.
Get ice packs and a heating pad. I have 6 ice packs because it always seemed whenever my ice packs cooled down the other one wasn’t cold enough yet. So getting more helps with that. I also had a big bag of alcohol/water solution which kinda freezes into this slushy form (you can look up online for proper amounts) but this was the best ice pack and lasted the longest!
Get good rest! And set alarms in the night to drink water! Stay hydrated and eat whenever you can!
Get nausea meds just in case. Better safe than sorry.
I hope you all have good recoveries and stay strong.
